Salt Lake Comic Con is back for its second year, and with it, comes the second annual Super Smash Bros. Tournament with a new name – Smash Comic Con! We’re topping our previous tournaments in April by including not only Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Melee, but also the much requested Project M!

Players need to provide their own controller for matches – any controller that works with the game may be used, including Wii Remote, Wii Remote+Nunchuck, Wii Remote+Classic Controller, or GameCube Controller. If you plan on using a Wii Remote, you are encouraged to bring a back-up controller and batteries just in case.

If you need a controller for the tournament, we will have GameCube controllers that you can rent for $5 and an ID. When you are finished with the controller, we will give you your ID and $3 back.

TV’s, Wii/GameCube Systems, and copies of the games will be provided by Gamer’s Abbey.

Rules will be based on a slightly modified version of the APEX 2014 Super Smash Bros. Melee, Brawl And Project M rule set.

These rules are subject to change leading up to the event date, but we will push news updates to make any changes known. Any player may be disqualified due to unfashionable behavior (insults, verbal/physical attacks, etc.) as seen fit by the tournament hosts. Anyone disqualified due to unfashionable behavior will not be refunded venue or entrance fees.

For each tournament there will be 8 pools with two stations per pool. Each player will play single matches, best 2 out of 3, with everyone in their pool until there are clearly two top placers who will move on to a 16 man double elimination bracket. Matches in the double elimination bracket with be best 2 out of 3 until the semi finals, finals, and grand finals, which will be best 3 out of 5.

Pool ties will be broken as follows:

  1. Number of sets won
  2. Winning percentage in games (win/loss ratio)
  3. Head-to-head

In the event of an X-way tie in Singles Pools after all tiebreakers are exhausted, a best-of-1 round robin will be played out between the X players until there is a clear order of placings.
